Gaudí’s Crypt - Colonia Güell

Discover Gaudí’s Crypt, one of the artist’s gems, at Colonia Güell, a textile industrial village just 20 minutes from Barcelona.

 

At the Crypt, visit Gaudí’s original twisted columns and see the techniques that Gaudí tested before using them on the Sagrada Família.

The Crypt was declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2005. 

• Marvel at the Crypt, where the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí experimented with many architectural solutions before building the Sagrada Família (World Heritage Site, 2005).

• In addition to Gaudí’s building, Colonia Güell gives visitors the opportunity to:
  • Explore its streets while admiring the most important Catalan Modernista buildings in the life of the village, which are of great architectural interest.
  • Visit the Interpretation Center inside the former workers’ cooperative. The center has a permanent exhibit that provides the keys to understanding the village as a whole and the church in particular.

• Colonia Güell has been declared a Cultural Heritage and is one of the largest industrial complexes in Catalonia. Here people worked and learned skills in a new integrated urban design that was innovative at its time.

 

Opening times of Colonia Güell:

• 1 May to 31 October: Monday to Friday, 10.00 a.m. –7.00 p.m. | Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, 10.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m.
• 1 November to 31 April: Monday to Friday, 10.00 a.m. –5.00 p.m. | Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, 10.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m.

 

Closed: 1 January, 6 January, 1 April, 6 April, 25 December and 26 December.

 

The price includes:

How to get to the Colonia Güell (Santa Coloma de Cervelló):

• By train - Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), from Plaça Espanya (Barcelona) - Lines S33, S8 and S4; stop Colonia Güell.

• By road – from the B-2002 between Sant Boi de Llobregat and Santa Coloma de Cervelló. From C-31 (in the direction of Sant Boi de Llobregat), C-32 (exit 53) and A2 and A7 (in the direction of Sant Boi de Llobregat). See map
